This man is high.

It was confirmed yesterday that Brad Miller’s five game suspension came as a result of the sticky icky ick. The issue now, as always, is why the NBA — and, indeed, the media — cares either way.

In an interview with the Sacramento Bee, Miller talks about how tough it was telling his mum and grandma about his weed use. It’s not like he’s rolling blunts around his kid*, though; apparently he gets his smoke on so he can sleep:

It’s tough to sleep, you know. And you know, the people who might think I’m a bad guy for this – I’m not a bad guy. I’m still me. It’s just one thing I thought would help. It obviously wasn’t the right thing to do, but it was helpful to my mental state.

You kind of wish he’d just come out firing and unrepentant, like Josh Howard and David Harrison. In a league historically boasting an unfortunately high rate of serious crime, Miller is only guilty of one thing: getting caught.

*Quick note: his daughter is named Anniston. Really. Cut to 2029: ‘are you named after, like, that girl who’s married to John Mayer?’
